Art and Culture for Alexandria

Old Town North is Alexandria’s designated Arts and Cultural District. This dynamic neighborhood has several works procured under Alexandria’s Public Art program; and is soon to receive a series of street level art pieces. The Old Town North Alliance has sponsored a design for an Arts and Cultural District Walk that links the Torpedo Factory Art Center through the neighborhood to the future redevelopment of the Potomac River Generating Station. And, the neighborhood is home to arts institutions such as MetroStage and the Art League, as well as the “coming soon” Levine School of Music and City Dance. Stay tuned for more exciting works of visual and performing arts.

The Walk

The Old Town North Alliance retained the architectural firm of Winstanley Architects to design a continuous walkway along the Potomac riverfront and Fairfax Street that emphasizes the arts through stops at sites of outdoor sculptural artworks, murals, designs on sidewalks, gallery windows, and areas of activation.

MetroStage Concept

The Carr Companies created a “glass box” within their Venue development on N. Fairfax Street to host MetroStage, a professional nonprofit theater company that produces contemporary plays and musicals. The space is currently under construction.

A dynamic neighborhood in a dynamic city.
